Write for Bromo Tengger Semeru
Bromotenggersemeru.org publishes news, travel guides and field notes from Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park and the wider East Java highlands: the Tengger caldera and its sea of sand, the Penanjakan sunrise, the Semeru climb via Ranu Pani and Ranu Kumbolo, the Tengger villages and the Yadnya Kasada ceremony. Our readers are travellers planning a trip, hikers preparing for Semeru, birdwatchers, photographers and people who simply want to understand this part of Indonesia better. If you have been here, or write well about Indonesian travel and the outdoors, we would like you to write for us. This page explains what we publish, how guest posts work and how to submit an article.
What we publish
We publish in Indonesian and English. Contributed pieces in English are especially welcome, since most international visitors read our English pages before they arrive.
- Practical guides to visiting Bromo: sunrise viewpoints, jeep tours, entry permits, seasons and what to pack
- Trekking and mountaineering on Semeru and neighbouring peaks, including permits, guides, porters and safety
- East Java travel: Malang, Probolinggo, Lumajang, Pasuruan, Ijen, Madakaripura and the routes between them
- Wider Indonesia travel: volcanoes, national parks, islands and overland itineraries
- Outdoor skills and gear reviews for tropical highland conditions
- Tengger culture, conservation, wildlife and the plants and birds of the park
Guest posts and sponsored articles
We accept two kinds of contributed content. A guest post is an editorial article from an outside writer, guide, photographer or researcher, published because it is useful to our readers. A sponsored post is a paid article from a business relevant to travel in Indonesia, such as a tour operator, homestay, hotel, outdoor gear brand, travel insurer, airline or booking platform.
Both are published as permanent, indexed pages on bromotenggersemeru.org. Editorial links inside an article are dofollow, as long as they point to a resource that genuinely helps the reader, such as a booking page, a route map or a gear listing. Sponsored articles are labelled as sponsored where disclosure is required. Pricing for sponsored placements is available on request. Typical turnaround from acceptance to publication is three to five working days.
Guidelines
Our contributor guidelines are simple, and every submission is checked against them:
- Original writing only. We do not accept articles published elsewhere, including on your own blog, and we check.
- Aim for 800 words or more. Detailed guides, day-by-day itineraries and trip reports with real dates and costs do best.
- One or two relevant outbound links per article. Links should help the reader; articles that read like link lists are returned.
- Be accurate about the park. Entry fees, permit rules, closures and trail conditions change often, so say when you visited and where your information comes from.
- Your own photographs are welcome, with a short caption and confirmation that you hold the rights. Landscape orientation, at least 1200 pixels wide.
- No gambling, adult or pharmaceutical content.
- An author bio of up to 50 words is optional and may include one link.
- We edit for house style, length and clarity. Larger changes are agreed with the author before publication.
How to pitch
Email a short pitch (two or three sentences on the topic and why it is useful to visitors) or a complete draft to [email protected] with the subject line "Guest post: <topic>". Say whether you are proposing a guest post or a sponsored post, and list any links you would like to include. We reply to every pitch that fits the topics above, usually within two working days.
Selamat menulis. To submit an article, email [email protected].
